Bunker session with Mat Joly

There are certain songs that take much more time to finish than others; “Open up your heart” is one of them.  Like letting a good wine age...some things take a little while to be at their best.

We composed an instrumental version of “Open Up” almost 2 years, and I never really found the vocal line I found good enough.  After trying a couple times with no success,  we decided to put it aside and retry another time.

Meanwhile, in the summer of 2011, we crossed paths up with an old friend of ours Mat Joly at a club in Montreal and we caught up and talked music for hours. Mat told us that his band Mobile was no more, and that he had chosen to go solo.  We also talked about doing a collaboration some day...

A couple months later, while looking for something else, we fell on the instrumental version of "Open Up Your Heart"... Simon and I shared the same though: “Could this be the one for Mat?” The next day we sent it to see if the song would inspire something in him. It did!

Mat came up with a powerful vocal melody and great lyrics .  We have the same desire…write something epic.

Here are a few pictures of the latest session taken by Mat's photographer Louis Turmel at Studio "le Bunker"!
